Endangered Species – Ground Squirrels and Hamsters
The hamster is a severely threatened species, which has lost a lot of habitat in recent decades. The biggest threat to the field hamster is the intensification of agriculture. The increasingly effective harvest means that hardly any grains remain on the area. The hamster has a hard time collecting enough supplies for the winter.
To my surprise these small hamsters live on a cemetery of a large city. This place offers them unexpected retreats, far from the hectic urbanisations. Here between the graves and trees they find food sources and suitable living conditions!
Ground Squirrels are small rodents that occur mainly in the open landscape of Europe. Unfortunately, they are threatened with extinction in many regions, which is partly due to habitat loss, intensive agriculture and the decline in their natural food. In the world of wildlife photography, squirrels represent fascinating motifs, since they often live in groups and show a curious behavior.
The threat to the population requires urgent measures to protect their habitats and to preserve this unique species. Wildlife photography can play an important role in this by drawing attention to the dangers and raising awareness of the preservation of ground squirrels and their habitats. By documenting their way of life and calling for action, photographers can help to keep these beautiful animals part of our European landscapes in the future.
